Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Asstata Shakur, Maya Angelou,

Bell Hooks, Daisy Bates, Angela Davis, Claudette Colvin

Women who have pave the road

Planted the greenery

Painted the street

Stoned the path

Just so someone like me

Can walk to their future

So this is my thank you letter,

Thank you for sacrificing your lives to make a difference

Your contributions to the world do not go unnoticed

Your blood, sweat and tears

Your trials, tribulations and fears

Were buried in the ground as seeds

To encourage the growth of so many other black girls like me

And so, in your memory.

I will remember your stories

In hope that one day I could do for someone else

What you all have done for me
